Social and Emotional Learning: Culturally Responsive Teaching | Session 2:
With support from OSPI’s Professional Educator Standards Board (PESB), the World Affairs Council of Seattle’s Global Classroom is excited to launch a professional growth series on Social and Emotional Learning: Culturally Responsive Teaching. The goals of this series are to support teachers in their professional growth by reflecting on how cultural diversity is taught in their classrooms; creating teacher leaders within their schools and professional learning communities; and examining conversations about race, equity, and power. In addition, teachers will reflect on these issues within the context of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL).
Building upon concepts highlighted in Session 1, this resource guide provides strategies to implement SEL and CRT into current curriculums, and why they have become concepts of critical importance to build global competence. Resources are provided for educators addressing identity and cultural discussion topics in the classroom, and plans of action are outlined to enhance pupils' cultural development and awareness.
