Supplemental Curriculum Resource Guide | Ethiopia’s Ongoing Civil War
This resource was created to supplement Community Event,
Ethiopia is embroiled in a year long civil war. Both Ethiopia’s federal government and the Tigray People’s Liberation Front, the former ruling party, accuse each other of severe human rights violations. With no clear end of the conflict in sight, the fighting has so far left thousands dead and displaced more than 2 million people. How did this civil war unfold and where is it headed? Is there a political solution?
This curriculum resource guide supports students, educators, and community members in learning about Ethiopia's geography, culture and diversity, and key elements in the country's history influencing the current conflict between the Ethiopian government and Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF). Educators and students will be able to analyze/explain the potential political and economic consequences for the region stemming from the current conflict, and understand the role of regional and global actors, such as the African Union and United Nations, in working to alleviate or resolve this crisis.
