LEADERSHIP TEAM 2024-2025
Riya Kalra, Global Classroom intern, is a rising sophomore at Wellesley College majoring in Economics and minoring in Mathematics. Riya aspires to attend graduate school for economics and pursue a career broadly in international economic policy. At Wellesley, Riya serves as the outreach chair for the Indian Student’s Association and the Wellesley College Democrats where she works to connect the on-campus community with those in the greater Boston area to facilitate social and political engagement.
Previously, Riya has worked as a research intern at Genocide Watch and as an outreach intern for the Dr. Kim Schrier for Congress campaign. At Genocide Watch, Riya’s work focused specifically on the Guatemalan Genocide, and she authored and published a report documenting the history on impact of the genocide. At the Schrier campaign Riya worked to connect the campaign with leaders in the Asian-Indian community to boost South Asian outreach and ensure that voices in her community were being heard.
Riya’s passion for international politics and international economics started in her sophomore year AP World History class. Exposure to robust international relations (IR) curriculum in high school pushed her to join the Global Classroom program where she hopes to pay her positive experiences forward and inspire the next generation to pursue the ever-important field of IR.
