GLX Programs: March 2023

The International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State with funding provided by the U.S. Government and administered by the World Affairs Council which is a member of Global Ties U.S.

Memorializing History Through Education and Museums: Seven curators, heads of museums, and leaders of education departments from Ukraine will visit Seattle with the goal of developing the Holodomor Victims Memorial, to commemorate the man-made famine in 1932-33. In their time here, they will discuss establishment of educational projects and programs around complex and sensitive topics, and collaboration with donors in the museum sphere.

Women, Peace, Security: In early March, 5 women leaders from Colombia will visit Seattle through the U.S. Department of State's International Visitor Leadership Program on a project for 'Women, Peace, and Security'. While in Seattle, they will explore themes surrounding the prevention of gender-based violence, and economic and legal empowerment of women. They will also have the ability to network with two other IVLP programs visiting Seattle during our first Global Community Mixer!

Countering Violent Extremism and Racially and Ethnically Motivated Violence: A group of seven European representatives from various national and regional security agencies will travel to the United States to explore underlying conditions that fuel extremism, how to identify it, and best practices and strategies to counter it. In Seattle, they will meet with researchers at University of Washington, Washington State Office of the Attorney General, Alternative for Violence Project among other organizations. Come and meet them on the World Affairs Council's Global Community Mixer on Thursday, March 2nd at 5:30 pm at SURF Incubator.

The On-Demand Youth Leadership Program (ODYLP) is an initiative of the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs administered by Legacy International in partnership with World Affairs council Seattle Washington.

Youth Leadership Program: Clean Energy: 12 youth leaders ages 15-18 and 3 adult mentors from Kenya, Namibia, and Botswana will visit Seattle for the 2023 Clean Energy Youth Leadership Program. The U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs Youth Programs Division, in partnership with the Office of Global Change and the Office of the Special Presidential Envoy for Climate, is sponsoring this program for youth to develop a deeper understanding of clean energy and to foster their ability to provide solutions to the climate crisis in their home communities. While in Seattle, these young leaders will explore themes such as climate change, clean energy initiatives, sustainability, community service, and community-based project implementation. These 12 students have gone through an intensive selection process to participate in this scholarship exchange trip. They were selected based on their leadership skills and dedication to environmental issues in their communities, and will stay with host families for full cultural immersion.
