Basia Olewska
Basia is a junior at Pepperdine University pursuing a major in International Studies with a concentration in Global Politics and a minor in French. She is a part of the Pepperdine Global Fellows, a program passionate about global engagement and intercultural learning. Before joining the Global Leadership Exchange team, Basia had the opportunity to study abroad in Germany and Argentina for the year. These experiences only helped fuel her fire for experiencing and understanding the many different cultures our world has to offer.
Along with studying French, Basia has also studied German, Spanish and American Sign Language, as well as being a native Polish speaker. Her passion for languages has encouraged her to learn about cultures, ideally through their own mother tongue - the best way one can do so. In high school, Basia was able to learn about deaf culture and helped her peers explore and learn more about this topic with her position as President of the ASL Honor Society. Her time volunteering with communities in Argentina has allowed her to experience firsthand the impact of understanding the language and local customs of a specific culture. In her free time, Basia loves involving herself in the arts, baking, and exploring the beauty Washington has to offer, whether that be in its cities or nature.
