SOLD OUT! Virtual Book Club for Educators | Other Rivers: A Chinese Education
December 4th, 2024 4:30PM -6:30PM
We’re excited to announce the release of Peter Hessler’s much-anticipated new book! Hessler, a seasoned journalist and gifted storyteller, draws from his experiences as a journalism teacher at Sichuan University and as a father of two young daughters attending a local elementary school. Through these perspectives, Other Rivers: A Chinese Education provides a fascinating look at China’s remarkable modern transformation, with a special focus on the education system—an essential lens for understanding the country’s history, present, and future.
We invite you to join NCTA seminar leader Tese Neighbor and World Affairs Council's Global Classroom Director Ryan Hauck in early December for an engaging discussion of this insightful book.
…He conveys the humanity and humor of everyday life in China, all the while embedding the stories he tells in the wider social and political ecosystem. The secret of his success is accessible writing informed by extensive experience of living in some of China’s less well-known regions. Hessler has deep sympathy and curiosity about the lives of the people he encounters and his own views lie largely in the background. Daniel A. Bell (Literary Review)
