Joella Werlin

The Seattle World Affairs Council was the first organization Joella Werlin joined after moving to Seattle from Portland, Oregon, in September 2014. Joella has been a member of the Oregon Council for more than 40 years, serving for 12 years, through the mid-1990s, on the Board of Directors and Advisory Board. For 17 years, Joella worked for Portland’s ABC-TV affiliate as a producer and then Director of Public Affairs and Community Relations. In 1995, she attended the World Women’s Conference in Beijing, carrying a courtesy press pass from the TV station. Her principal charge was to interview refugee women attending the NGO conference, hosted by the Women’s Commission for Refugee Women and Children (founded through IRC, the International Rescue Committee). Joella later served on the Women’s Refugee Commission’s national advisory council. From 1995 until 2014, under her business name Familore, Joella recorded oral histories and produced memoirs for individual and professional clients She holds a B.A. in European history from Connecticut College and a graduate Diploma in Social Anthropology from Oxford University (LMH College).
