Senator John McCain
After graduating from the Naval Academy in 1958, John McCain began his career as a Naval aviator. In 1982, he was elected to Congress representing what was then the first congressional district of Arizona. In 1986, he was elected to the United States Senate to take the place of Arizona's Senator Barry Goldwater. Senator McCain is currently the Senior Senator from Arizona.
Senator McCain is currently the Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Armed Services. He also serves on the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, and the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs. Prior to his election to Congress, Senator McCain served in the United States Navy from 1958 – 1981, and is the recipient of the Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Purple Heart, and Distinguished Flying Cross.
