Sustainable Development Goals: Girls at the Center of Development

On Thursday, January 26th, the World Affairs Council partnered with The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Visitor Center to host a workshop on Sustainable Development Goal number 5: Gender Equality. We heard from Alexandra Farnum,Senior Program Officer in the Global Policy and Advocacy Program at the Gates Foundation, and D Hien Tran, Chief Strategy Officer at Landesa about the work that their organizations do to support Gender Equity projects around the world. Patrick McMahon, Communications Officer on the Community & Civic Engagement team at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, moderated the conversation. Wendy Ewbank, teacher at Seattle Girls’ School and Global Classroom Director Ryan Hauck introduced curricular connections and lesson ideas for bringing the SGDs to life in the classroom. Our resource packet compiles topics introduced alongside full lesson plans that will help any teacher introduce the SDGs and Gender Equality into their curriculum.
