Picasso: Eyes on the World

The World Affairs Council’s Global Classroom was proud to collaborate with the Seattle Art Museum in conjunction with its landmark exhibition Picasso: Masterpieces from the Musée National Picasso, Paris. Pablo Picasso’s lengthy career spanned several world wars and crises, and each conflict exerted a presence in his work. The human suffering inflicted on his native Spain and the impending chaos of World War II, as well as his creative response to social issues such as human rights, poverty, and health, are reflected in his work throughout his career. The workshop, corresponding exhibition preview, and this companion resource packet illuminates how Picasso’s increasingly global society functioned as a catalyst and inspiration for his creative work. The resource packet includes lesson plans, video clips, interactive websites as well as a listing of full-length films, documentaries and books. Teachers will also find lesson plans related to world events in Picasso’s life (the Spanish-American War, the two world wars, and the Spanish Civil War).
