Addie Perkins

Addie Perkins is a senior at the University of Washington, focusing the majority of her studies within the Jackson School of International Studies. Exposed to various cultures at a young age, she became intrigued by cultural immersion outside of the United States and how that manifests itself on a governmental level. While majoring in European Studies and double-minoring in Middle East Studies and French, Addie has found answers to her initial intrigue, as well as cultivated interest in examining the modern implications of historical foreign affairs, focusing on relations between Europe and the Middle East.

These interests made her want to learn more about how international affairs is taught in other countries, and she followed that questioning to her studies at Sciences Po-Paris in winter and spring 2020. After her experience studying and living abroad, coupled with the leadership and influence of several professors and classes, Addie hopes to pursue a career in the State Department as a Foreign Service Officer, following a master’s degree in International Affairs.

Addie was captivated by the World Affairs Council’s approach to global affairs education outside of university. With the field of international studies sometimes being mistaken as one available only to those in higher education, she hopes that by working with the Global Classroom team, she can help inform the broader Seattle area about the benefits of international studies through teacher programming and awareness at the k-12 level.
