The Fellows convene monthly for breakfast discussions with carefully selected high-caliber international experts who offer unparalleled insight into current global issues, in addition to meeting throughout the year for additional Council events and dedicated networking opportunities.
About the Speaker
Richard Ragan is a senior United Nations (UN) staff member and currently the UN World Food Program’s (WFP) Country Representative to Yemen as of February of 2022 . Ragan began his career in the WFP in 1998 as the Deputy Country Director in China dealing with the 1998 Yangtze River floods and the complex emergencies in Kosovo and East Timor. Ragan has served as the WFP Representative in seven countries: Bangladesh, Libya, Liberia, Nepal, Tanzania, North Korea and Zambia.
During his time as Acting Assistant Secretary-General, Ragan opened the Liberia office as part of the UN Secretary General’s Ebola Emergency Response Mission (UNMEER) to combat Ebola, managing operations in the area. While in South Africa Ragan served as the WFP’s Deputy Regional Director for East and Southern Africa and following the magnitude 7.8 earthquake in Nepal in 2015, Ragan acted as the WFP Emergency Coordinator for the region.
He holds a Master’s degree in International Development and Administration from SIT and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business from University of Mississippi.
