Content Club: The Global Cost of the Olympics
August 25th, 2024 10:00AM -12:00PM
What is Content Club? It’s like a book club, but bite-sized...and more fun.
In this YPIN event series, we organize informal gatherings to discuss an everyday topic from a global perspective. We’ll provide content for you to read, watch or listen to before the event (articles, podcasts, videos, TikToks, shows, maybe excerpts from a book or two). Take in as much or as little as you can, bring recommendations of your own, and come ready to discuss.
This month, we’re discussing the Olympic Games! The 2024 Olympics this year was held in Paris, France. The Olympic Games is a major international multi-sport event held every four years, organized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
The Olympic Games feature athletes from around the world competing in summer or winter sports, promoting ideals of peace, unity, and fair competition. They include elaborate opening and closing ceremonies, a global torch relay, and medal awards. Despite their noble ideals, the Games can also be associated with controversies such as high costs for host cities, environmental concerns, and issues related to the displacement of local communities.
Join us to discuss the Olympic Games and how they went this summer as well as their implications and benefits historically.
