Content Club: The Global Cost of Fast Fashion
June 23rd, 2024 11:00AM -1:00PM
What is Content Club? It’s like a book club, but bite-sized...and more fun.
In this YPIN event series, we organize informal gatherings to discuss an everyday topic from a global perspective. We’ll provide content for you to read, watch or listen to before the event (articles, podcasts, videos, Tiktoks, shows, maybe excerpts from a book or two). Take in as much or as little as you can, bring recommendations of your own, and come ready to discuss.
This month, we’re discussing fast fashion: apparel that is cheaply produced and sold in response to ever-changing fashion trends. The fast fashion industry makes up a growing percentage of global carbon emissions and produces waste that overwhelms communities where the world’s unwanted clothing is thrown away. It is also a human catastrophe, leading to low wages and poor working conditions for garment workers worldwide.
Join us to discuss the effects of fast fashion in our lives, how it affects other parts of the world, and what we can do to be more mindful about our clothing consumption.
