The International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State with funding provided by the U.S. Government and administered by the World Affairs Council which is a member of Global Ties U.S.
Promoting Social Change Through the Arts: Sixteen leaders in arts and culture will be visiting Seattle to learn about government support of the arts as well as cultural policymaking and community advocacy for the arts as part of this multi-regional project.
Federalism: Six representatives of government ministries, think tanks, and policy institutes from Burma will come to Seattle to explore effective messaging strategies, understand all levels of government, and learn about the rule of law and branches of government in the United States.
Human and Civil Rights for Marginalized Communities: This multi-regional project for twenty visitors from twenty different countries explores the strategies of human and civil rights practitioners who advocate for the rights of marginalized communities and demonstrate how they present their concerns to government and social influencers. Participants will explore creative approaches to celebrate diversity, promote inclusive public attitudes, address sensitive issues by working across institutional lines, and expand collaborative networks.
Excellence in Higher Education STEM in the Quad: Fourteen leaders from Australia, India, and Japan will explore how Institutes of Higher Education partner with industry to promote transformative approaches to STEM learning, work with federal and state governments to further STEM education, and recruit and retain a diverse and talented pool of STEM-literate professionals who are prepared to tackle the jobs of the future.
Promoting Climate Resilience, Economic Development, and Good Governance in the Pacific: The group of five leaders from Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu will examine how climate affects U.S. economic systems and determine best practices to reduce the effects of climate change, which are particularly devastating to these Pacific Islands. They will learn how different levels of government grapple with climate change and how communities have adapted their economies to remain relevant and profitable, while also adopting principles of sustainability.
Promoting Economic Development and Trade in Papua New Guinea: Six leaders from Papua New Guinea will explore new and existing developmental finance avenues and identify best practices in analyzing and implementing foreign aid and foreign direct investment finance options to maximize efficiency and minimize additional costs. This project will examine the role of small business in driving sustained economic growth and prosperity and highlight the skills necessary to achieve and maintain entrepreneurial success. The program will also examine private sector and local, state, and federal government strategies for stimulating economic growth.
