The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Discovery Center & the World Affairs Council’s Global Classroom Present: Banishing the Stigma of HIV/Aids

Join the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Discovery Center and the World Affairs Council’s Global Classroom for an informative educator workshop on banishing the stigma of HIV/AIDS in our classrooms and community. Participants will learn more about the work of the Gates Foundation in addressing HIV/AIDS, experience the Discovery Center’s “Through Positive Eyes,” a new virtual exhibition featuring photography, stories, sculpture, and video by those living with HIV/AIDS and engage with local leaders who are taking meaningful action in our schools and communities. Please join us for this timely and essential discussion that encourages dialogic learning to challenge the stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS in our local, national, and global community.

Speakers Include:

Lorna Tumwebaze: Program officer, Program Advocacy and Communication HIV/TB at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Lorna is a physician and public health specialist. She has extensive experience in national and regional health, education, population and development programs in the Africa and South Asia regions.

Lisa Love: Lisa Love, Seattle Public Schools Manager of Health Education provides comprehensive health materials, support, staff development, and technical assistance to students, staff, and families.

Steve Sawyer: Steve Sawyer is the Executive Director of People of Color Against AIDS Network, also known as POCAAN. Steve, advises on HIV/AIDS prevention education in the Renton School District, and provides referrals, information and education for newly diagnosed HIV-positive individuals in communities of color instead.
