Fiona Garvey
Fiona Garvey is a 3rd-year interdisciplinary honors student at the University of Washington pursuing a B.A. in Sociology and a B.A. in Global and Regional Studies. Originally from Chagrin Falls, Ohio, she has a passion for expanding her horizons, a main reason she came to Seattle. Fiona has been fortunate enough to travel most of her life, visiting 15 countries and counting. For a summer, she studied the justice system and its intersections with gender, class, race, climate, and religion in Sweden. Her main academic interests include human interactions in IR, multilateral decision making and government cooperation with civil society organizations, and the growing threat of climate change on low-income countries and global migration.
At the University of Washington, Fiona is a member of Phi Alpha Delta Pre-Law Fraternity, as well as the Co-President of Vocal Jazz at UW. She has previously participated in West Coast Model EU, chairing negotiations as the President of the European Council. Fiona also traveled to Washington D.C. in March to compete in the EU Delegation’s 2023 Schuman Challenge on the security implications of climate change.
In her free time, Fiona loves to bake, read, hike, and travel. She’s currently working on her fluency in French and hopes one day to live abroad. Fiona is thrilled to be interning with the World Affairs Council as an External Relations Intern and can’t wait for the great experiences and opportunities it offers her!
