Hanwen Fan
Hanwen Fan is an international student from China in the Jackson School of International Studies at the University of Washington. She is currently a senior. She focuses her study on International Affairs with a particular interest in U.S.-China relations. She has worked as a legislative intern in the House of Representatives, which was a great opportunity to learn about U.S. politics and the daily operation of a government office. She found the profound difference between Chinese and American politics and governance very interesting. That experience made her want to learn about political and policy issues of more countries, so she decided to participate in a study abroad program in Rome to complete her senior capstone project. The program helped expand her knowledge on foreign affairs regarding China from being U.S.-centered to truly global. All those factors led her to the World Affairs Council. She is very excited about the prospect of furthering her understanding about the world by working as an International Visitor Program intern. She’s also looking forward to assisting the Council in promoting global understanding in the Puget Sound region.
