Julia Wygant
Julia recently graduated from Azusa Pacific University in Los Angeles with a BA in International Relations. Her degree was focused on South and Central Asian affairs with an emphasis in counter terrorism. She is particularly interested in the role of public diplomacy on returning foreign terrorist fighters in South and Central Asia. While she was in college, she worked as a Public Diplomacy Intern at the U.S. State Department, and had the opportunity to work with International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) delegates from South and Central Asia in Washington, DC. She believed the best parts about working at the State Department were regularly interacting with delegates, connecting them to field experts, and hearing their stories. For this reason, she is excited to work with the IVP team at the World Affairs Council to continue learning about the role of public diplomacy in Seattle while interacting with IVP delegations.
After this internship, Julia hopes to pursue a Fulbright scholarship to Uzbekistan. Her long-term goal is to become a diplomat for the State Department. In her spare time, she enjoys cycling, reading, and learning new languages.
