Roger Meece

After graduating from Michigan State University, Mr. Meece served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Sierra Leone, and later various staff assignments in several countries. He joined the U.S. Foreign Service in 1979, serving a majority of his career in Africa, but also with assignments in Canada, parts of Latin America, and Washington DC, including two years detailed to the Office of the Vice President. He served as Charge d’Affaires in Nigeria (2003) and Ethiopia (2009) and had two appointments as U.S. Ambassador, to Malawi (2000 – 2003) and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (2004 – 2007). Following his retirement from the Department of State, the U.N. Secretary-General appointed him as Special Representative of the Secretary-General and head of the U.N. peacekeeping mission (MONUSCO) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo from 2010 - 2013. He continues to be involved in foreign policy related activities. He is a member of the Seattle World Affairs Council board, the Washington State Advisory Committee of the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition, and the American Academy of Diplomacy, and he chairs the Foreign Service Retirees Association of Washington State.
