Community Events
Seattle is a global brand, recognized for innovation in technology, retail, philanthropy, health, and much more. From personal computing to coffee, from how we travel to how we shop, greater Seattle has changed the world. Global challenges—whether economic or political—are inherently local challenges and the World Affairs Council is committed to providing opportunities for our individual and corporate members as well as the greater Seattle community to gain a better understanding of the rapidly changing world. The Council’s Community Programs create frequent opportunities for discussion, dialogue, and debate on global issues. Over the course of a program year, the Council hosts approximately one hundred events, offering a non-partisan and civil forum for community members to become more knowledgeable about international issues and their local relevance, to become inspired to learn more, and to become more connected to others who share an interest in global issues and the roles of the United States and Seattle in the international community.
The Council’s events are discussions rather than lectures, enabling attendees to engage directly with the speakers and each other. Events include panel discussions, town-hall meetings, discussion groups, trivia nights, and networking events as well as high-level receptions and private gatherings. No matter the size of the program, participants at every event are able to address their specific interests in a meaningful conversation through moderated Q&A, because a global city like Seattle needs well-informed global citizens.
