Brexit, Transatlantic Relations and Russia: The Global Significance of a British Exit from the EU
On Tuesday, September 27th teachers met at Roosevelt High School to learn more about the global implications of Britain’s Referendum vote to ‘Leave’ the EU. We we joined by Robin Twyman, Consul (Business and Government Affairs) at the UK Government Office in Seattle, Professor Phillip Shekleton, University of Washington’s Center for West European Studies and the Foster School, and by World Affairs Council’s President and CEO Jackie Miller. Mr. Twyman led a discussion around what led up the the Referendum, and what the Brexit vote means for the UK going forward; Prof Shektelon discussed the broader implications of Brexit, in terms of what the vote means for the EU and Europe as a whole; and Jackie Miller extended the conversation to discuss Russia’s interest in Brexit. Teachers participated in a lively conversation with the speakers, and had the opportunity to delve deeper into topics of interest during an extended Q & A.
