Climate Change and Human Rights
On Thursday, November 3rd, Global Classroom traveled to Poulsbo, Washington for a teacher’s workshop in partnership with Western Washington University on Climate Change and Human Rights. The workshop featured Dr. Troy Abel, Associate Professor of Environmental Policy in Western Washington University’s Huxley College of the Environment and Dr. Jennie Hoffman, co-founder of EcoAdapt, as well as teachers Ryan Hauck and Tami Caraballo. Dr. Hoffman spoke on climate change, how it manifests itself as well as how people come together to make decisions and implement change .Dr. Abel spoke on Environmental Policy and Justice as it relates to climate change. Ryan Hauck and Tami Caraballo framed the conversation on climate change and social justice in terms of student engagement, and provided tools for bringing these issues into K-12 Social Studies and Science classrooms.
