Global Classroom Book Club | Fall 2021 | The Heartbeat of Iran
This resource was created to supplement Global Classroom Book Club,
The Heartbeat of Iran showcases the everyday lives of the people of Iran focusing, not on the country's, "delicate socio-cultural, political, and religious mosaic,' but on the people who make up this mosaic and breathe life into the country. The work follows the lives of 24 regular Iranians and "offers an unprecedented insight into how people's shared humanity, culture, and aspirations are far greater and more powerful than any rift and divide."
This curriculum resource guide provides educators, students, and community members with tools and resources to identify the geographic features of Iran and analyze how these characteristics shape/impact local and national decision-making. The compiled resources help to identify key events (and leaders) in Iran's history, providing insight into how they have impacted Iran's past and present, and supports educators and students in discussing misconceptions that Americans or others may have of Iranian society, why these misconceptions exist, and what can be done to address them. Additionally, educators and students will be able to identify, evaluate, and discuss U.S - Iranian relations from both historical and contemporary perspectives, and effective strategies for improving U.S. Iranian relations.
