Social and Emotional Learning: Culturally Responsive Teaching | Session 1:
With support from OSPI’s Professional Educator Standards Board (PESB), the World Affairs Council of Seattle’s Global Classroom is excited to launch a professional growth series on Social and Emotional Learning: Culturally Responsive Teaching. The goals of this series are to support teachers in their professional growth by reflecting on how cultural diversity is taught in their classrooms; creating teacher leaders within their schools and professional learning communities; and examining conversations about race, equity, and power. In addition, teachers will reflect on these issues within the context of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL).
Serving as an introduction of SEL and CRT, this guide references standards and benchmarks set for these academic concepts, by the state of Washington, while also articulating the benefits teaching professionals and their students can gain from their implementation at a classroom level. This curriculum resource guide supports educators with implications for personal development, professional growth of educators, and identity leadership skills for pupils.
